Let's Talk About Oakland: Latham Square

by Ari Takata-Vasquez

After much anticipation, Latham Square is FINALLY open! After 14 months of construction right outside of our door, I thought it would never come to an end. Now that the park is open, I'm so excited to drink my coffee out before I open up shop and soak in some sun. Another, less selfish, reason why I'm excited for Latham Square's reopening, is because of its important role as a core for Downtown. It's literally smack dab in the middle of the 12th and 19th street BART entrances and is where our core arterials, Telegraph and Broadway, meet.

With this redesign, the park is now four times larger. It also features a pedestrian friendly paving pattern on Telegraph and improved lighting across the square. The fountain also features running water for the first time in decades! With these improvements, Latham Square now is a true focal point for Downtown Oakland along side the iconic Cathedral building. Curious about what the inside of the Cathedral building looks like? We've got you covered, check out our blog with our friend Victor.

Even more exciting, there's a party! Join us on Thursday 7/28 from 5-8pm to celebrate the grand re-opening. Come and enjoy live music with food and drink from local restaurants. A bunch of local businesses are also setting up booths featuring local artisan products. Best of all, our friends over at Oakland Animal Services are bringing adoptable dogs to the party. As you know, we have a soft spot for pit bulls, so you'll know where to find the Viscera team.

We were so pumped about this event, Viscera Design is proudly one of the sponsors. We provided the graphics for the event and helped organize the shopping passport.

Hope to see you on Thursday!
