What's In-Store for 2017!

by Ari Takata-Vasquez

We're rapidly approaching the end of 2016 ( finally!) and now it's time to look forward to the new year. I wanted to take a moment to share what's in-store (pun very much intended) for Viscera in 2017. It's hard to believe the shop is already two-years-old because it feels like just yesterday I was telling people about my new crazy idea for an American-made retail shop, and yes, in Downtown Oakland. Entering 2017 we're looking at what it means to be a retail concept that's community focused, built on ethical production, and pushing the bounds of digital fabrication.

New Designers

We go to the trade shows a few times a year in search of new designers who care about American-made production as much as we do. In 2016 we brought in more than a dozen new designers including, Corridor, Alamere, Only Child, and Neva Opet. In 2017 We've already got several new designers lined up to stock our racks. We're looking forward to welcoming Seeker, Father's Daughter, Megan Huntz, and Corrine. Are there any great brands you're loving? Let me know, info@viscerastudio.com

Ramping-up Our Art Program

It's been fantastic hosting local artists in the shop. We had Rose Borden's gorgeous black and white photography, Patti Maciesz's watercolors of New York City, and Harriet Poznansky's chalk art that still lives in the shop. We're picking up the pace on our art program and are going to feature a new artist every quarter or more. Our upcoming artist, Leo Felix, is installing his art in the next couple of weeks and I'm so excited to get some really big scale pieces in here.  Want to be one of our artists? Send me an email to info@viscearstudio.com.

Making of a Magazine

Now that we've put out our first edition of Viscera magazine, it's time to keep the ball rolling and we've already got a number of articles ready for volume 2. It felt so good to see our magazine in person, it's real! Now that we've sort of got the hang of the whole magazine thing, we're looking to expand our content. Want to contribute? Send an email to info@VisceraStudio.com (starting to pick up on the pattern here?)

2017 is a brand spanking new year and we can't wait for what's in store. It's been an amazing ride so far and I can't wait to see what the new year brings. From the jump, we've been about building community and want to keep a good thing going. If you want to work with us, don't hesitate to send over an email. We're a small team and always looking for good people to be in our corner.

Happy New Year!
