Autumn is Telling Us to Rest
by Lindsey Dantes
Yesterday was the Autumnal Equinox, signaling the official change from Summer to Fall. For many, this shift feels bittersweet as our days grow shorter and the weather starts to cool. Longer, darker nights are not typically something you hear people rejoicing over; and yet we still celebrate the arrival of Fall with joyful anticipation. We know that with this darker season comes the opportunity for cozy sweaters and pumpkin lattes, but I believe our attraction to this time of year goes deeper than that. Perhaps the reason so many feel a fondness for Autumn is because it serves as a reminder to rest.

It's no big news that productivity and "busy-ness" are held in high regard in our society. We have all been taught to find our value in how much we are able to get done in a day. This is where nature comes in to remind us that not even the birds and the trees are in full work mode all of the time. The shorter, crisp Autumn days remind us that not only is it okay to rest for a time, but it is productive to do so.

While you pull out your favorite knits and sip on your warm pumpkin beverage, take a moment to breathe and enjoy the slowing down. It's what nature intends if only for a moment.
